Russia has made a statement in response to all the news about the US’s seemingly deteriorating relationship with Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was visiting the United States when a tense situation unfolded in President Donald Trump’s Oval Office. Now it appears that Russia has issued a statement on all of this, with a Kremlin representative commenting on the matter. A Kremlin representative has spoken out about Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky’s willingness to negotiate after Donald Trump read a letter from the latter to Congress. Last week, President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance met with Ukraine’s Zelensky to discuss various issues, the most pressing of which is of course Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. The situation became tense, and Trump and Vance expressed their disappointment with Zelensky’s lack of gratitude and “unwillingness” to negotiate a ceasefire with Russia. “You are playing with the lives of millions of people,” Trump said during the meeting. “You’re playing with World War III, and what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country that has supported you much more than many people say they should have,” the US president added.
Russia’s reaction to Trump’s words to Zelensky
Trump said he would suspend all military aid to Ukraine, a move that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov hailed as “the best contribution to the cause of peace.” After his early departure from the White House, Zelensky wrote a letter to President Donald Trump that he read to Congress yesterday, March 4, 2025. He said: “Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible.” It added: “My team and I are ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to achieve a lasting peace,” and “We truly appreciate how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence.” The letter also said that Ukraine is ready to sign the rare earths agreement at any time convenient for the United States. This was the agreement they were supposed to sign during Zelensky’s disastrous visit to the White House. “It’s time to end this senseless war. If you want to end war, you have to talk to both sides,” the president said.
Ukraine on negotiations
It seems that Moscow also appreciates Ukraine’s willingness to “come to the negotiating table.” “We are positive. The question is with whom we will sit at the negotiating table,” Peskov said in a statement. However, he expressed confusion over how that could happen given the 2022 decree that declared that Ukraine would not negotiate with Russian leader Putin. “Currently, the legal ban of the President of Ukraine on holding talks with the Russian side is in effect,” the statement said. “Overall, the strategy is positive, but the details have not changed yet,” the statement noted. Sky News reported that Russia’s attack on Ukraine is still ongoing. On March 4, 2025, it launched a drone strike on the city of Odessa in southern Ukraine, resulting in the death of a 77-year-old woman and the injury of three others. Regional governor Oleh Kiper said the woman died of shrapnel wounds on the outskirts of the city and that the drones had damaged a private home and also started fires. In retaliation for the 181 drones launched by Russia, Ukraine shot down 115 of them
