When a 17-year-old Wisconsin boy with perfect attendance missed multiple school days, a resource officer became concerned. The school requested a welfare check at Nikita Casap’s home in Waukesha, on February 28, 2025. When deputies from the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene, they found two adults dead and Nikita missing. But it wasn’t just the teenager who had seemingly disappeared.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by TMJ 4, police found Nikita’s mother, Tatiana Casap, and his stepfather, Donald Mayer, dead inside the home. The mother had an apparent exit wound from a gunshot, and Mayer reportedly had an “obvious wound” to the head. According to the sheriff’s department, at the time of the discovery, police did not know remaining family members’ whereabouts.

Nikita Casap reportedly took off with the family’s dog in his mother’s car. Police later found the teenager in WaKeeney, Kansas. Investigators reportedly found Mayer’s handgun, along with spent shell casings and the victims’ driver’s licenses.
A neighbor reportedly told police they saw Nikita Casap driving his mother’s car on February 23. Travel data allegedly shows the teen moving through Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Colorado on February 24.

In addition to Nikita Casap’s school requesting a welfare check, People reported that Mayer’s mother requested a welfare check around the same time, after receiving “suspicious” and “weird” texts from her son.
Mayer’s employer reportedly told police it received a text from him on February 25, that said he couldn’t talk on the phone and was sick and would not be at work.
Police arrested Nikita Casap on charges of theft and operating a vehicle without consent. The sheriff’s department announced the completion of autopsies on both victims, but did not release the causes of death.
According to police, “A person of interest is currently in custody on separate charges. The investigation is ongoing and remains active.”
The sheriff’s office added, “The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department urges citizens with any information or leads concerning this case to contact Detective Sam Yanke at 262-896-8117 or 262-548-7128.”
